2524 Mission Street — providing affordable housing for formerly homeless veterans
The lives of several formerly homeless veterans who are in the HUD-VASH program have been stabilized at 2524 Mission Street. The recently refurbished building — formerly a hostel known as Elements Hotel — is now a residence operated by Mission Housing Development Corporation.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development – VA Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program is a joint effort between HUD and the VA to move veterans and their families out of homelessness and into permanent housing. HUD has allocated funding to local public housing authorities to provide more than 58,000 Housing Choice Vouchers to homeless veterans. The VA hired dedicated case managers to assist these veterans in securing and maintaining permanent housing through intensive case management.
