Ten multi-unit residential buildings around San Francisco have been acquired by Mission Housing Development Corporation and rehabilitated into 72 units of quality affordable housing. This is the largest and oldest portfolio of Scattered-Site housing by any nonprofit owner in San Francisco. The upgraded buildings provide long-term, quality management for the residents. The character of the community and the existing affordable housing stock are preserved.
Many of the extremely low-income households in these units are stabilized by rental subsidies from the Section 8 Housing Assistance Program.
The economic vitality of the Mission and other SF neighborhoods is strengthened by six small business enterprises operating in the ground floor commercial spaces of these small sites. As a nonprofit owner, Mission Housing is able to charge reasonable rents and commit to long-term affordability.
