In 2022, Mission Housing — in partnership with Mithun Design and Cahill Contractors — pioneered a new program introducing affordable housing and its many career paths to the local high school students at Balboa High School.
“With Kapuso under construction, the opportunity was perfect to show our local youth how a site like ours comes together,” said Marcia Contreras, Mission Housing’s Deputy Executive Director. “We are extremely fortunate to have partners like Mithun and Cahill who are willing to pull the curtain back to give unprecedented access to this development.”
More than just tours of the site, students were treated to real world, educational curriculum focusing on sustainable architecture, construction and community development.
Eighty-plus students across three dates participated in the program.
