Dawn of a Mission Renewed: Mission Housing celebrates 53 years of affordable housing

On September 19th, The Midway came alive with the vibrant energy of community and cultura, celebrating the incredible spirit that binds us all through affordable housing.

The night was filled with unforgettable performances from Christian Pepin y su Orquesta Bembe and Mariachi Bonitas de Dinorah Klinger, whose music resonated throughout the venue, uniting San Franciscan leaders and pioneers in joy. Musical notes from Cathia and Edgardo Cambon y su Orquesta Candela captivated the audience, leaving an indelible mark on the evening.

Mission Housing proudly recognized three Quezada: Spirit of the Colibri Award recipients, including 20-year Mission Housing Staff member and community leader, Martin Ugarte, Forest Hill Christian Church, and District 9’s Board of Supervisor, Hillary Ronen – all whose dedication to community, particularly in the realm of affordable housing, has inspired many people across San Francisco

A special highlight and theme throughout the night was the inspiring voyage of the Colibrí, underscoring Mission Housing’s collective mission to spread awareness about affordable housing, partner with community-based organizations, and ensuring that every family has a place to call home. This was highlighted by the art auction, hosted by Accion Latina.

The event was uplifted with generous sponsors, of whom raised close to $360,000, and vendors, whose unwavering support has formed the backbone of events like this. Their commitment has allowed affordable housing advocates to continue celebrating the culture of La Mision and foster community spirit in the pursuit of affordable housing for low-income families across San Francisco.
