Mission Housing and Wells Fargo Break Ground on Educational Play Space at Valencia Gardens in San Francisco

On October 2, Mission Housing and Wells Fargo uplifted low-income families by breaking ground on a vibrant community space to foster creativity, education, and connection for children.

The project played a pivotal role in Wells Fargo’s “Welcome Home” campaign – a month-long initiative by the bank to unify employee-volunteers and local nonprofits to enhance affordable housing and community well-being.

The day began with a community room rally and check presentation at Valencia Gardens -- the largest family site in Mission Housing’s portfolio and a home to 218 family flats and 42 senior apartments.

Wells Fargo made this project possible with a generous $25,000 grant. The funding highlights the bank’s dedication to promoting secure, affordable, and sustainable housing for future generations. In doing so, Wells Fargo uplifts the hard work of community-based organizations like Mission Housing.

With plans to serve as a dynamic learning environment for children and families, while in the safety of their communities, this space brings playing and learning opportunities for hundreds of low-income families in San Francisco’s Mission District.

"We believe that vibrant communities are built on the foundation of secure and affordable housing," said Mission Housing’s Executive Team. "This play space is about creating a nurturing environment where children can learn and grow. We are grateful for Wells Fargo and their consistent support of Mission Housing.”
