San Francisco, Calif. — On July 18, 2024, Mission Housing Development Corporation celebrated the legacy of one of the community’s most impactful leaders.
With a traditional Quinceañera celebration as its backdrop, a group of 200 people honored Marcia Contreras and her 15 years of service to the Mission community via her work at Mission Housing.
“There would be no Mission Housing if it weren’t for Marcia,” said Sam Moss, Executive Director at Mission Housing. “She is the heart of our organization, the engine that keeps us running, and the foundation of our work. We are thrilled to have an opportunity to celebrate her legacy.”
“Quinceañera: The Marcia Contreras Legacy Celebration” was held at The Verdi Club in San Francisco and was presented by Wells Fargo. The celebration featured bailes sorpresa from Cumbiamba Colombiana, Chavalos Danzas por Nicaragua and Fogo Na Roupa.
District 11 Supervisor Ahsha Safai, Sam Moss, and Mission Housing's office manager Ana Torres gave heartfelt brindis.
The programming concluded with an emotional and resounding speech by the Quineañera herself, Marcia Contreras.
The event's sponsors included Fremont Bank, Caritas Property Management, Mithun, Mission Neighborhood Health Centers, YMCA of Greater San Francisco, Saber Law Group, Lutheran Social Services, SND Partners, Calle 24, Dev/Mission, Five Star Bank, Housing Action Coalition, Heffernan Insurance, The Women's Building, and MEDA.
