San Francisco, Calif. — On Wednesday, January 15, the developers of the "Marvel in the Mission" welcomed the Plaza 16 Coalition and over 100 community members to La Fenix at 1950 to begin the design process of what will be the biggest 100% affordable housing development in the neighborhood's history.
"It's an honor to host La Mision on such a momentous occasion," said Mission Housing's Executive team. "This project has been the dream of this community for a very long time so to have events like this where we talk about what we will create together, it's an amazing feeling."
"There's nothing better than starting the year alongside community members to work together on the vision for the Marvel in the Mission, an affordable housing development the Mission community fought for over a long time," said Luis Granados, MEDA’s Chief Executive Officer. "By keeping the community's voice at the forefront, we ensure that hardworking families gain housing that enhances their quality of life and creates opportunities for a better future."
Members of both development teams (Mission Housing and MEDA) gave updates on the status of the Marvel to a packed La Fenix at 1950 community room. Also in attendance were the architecture team of Mithun and Herman Coliver Locus Architecture.
"The Marvel in the Mission will be a symbol for future generations of what effective community outreach and advocacy in support of housing justice looks like," said Anne Torney of Mithun. "For Mithun and HCLA, collaborating with MEDA, Mission Housing, MOHCD, BART, and so many community partners will be truly a great honor. We will bring decades of experience in designing for the common good."
